Bicester Town branch (3 images)
The Bicester Town branch runs from Oxford and is operated by First Great Western Link using class 165 Turbo DMUs and serves just two stations at Islip and Bicester Town.The branch is single for most of the line and is a through route although passenger services terminate at Bicester Town station.The branch is also used for through freight services,mainly MOD trains to and from Bicester.
Stourbridge Town branch (6 images)
Famous for being the shortest branch line in the UK and just serves the Stourbridge Town interchange.Operated by Central Trains onbehalf of Centro using single class 153 sprinters which run back and forth every 15 minutes or so from the nearby mainline station at Stourbridge Junction.
Marlow branch (19 images)
The Maidenhead to Marlow branch serves four stations Furze Platt,Cookham,Bourne End and Marlow.Operated using 2/3 car Turbo DMUs by First Great Western Link on an hourly basis with an half hourly timetable during the peak times.Single track throughout with an extra platform at Bourne End which during peak times has one unit running to/from Bourne End and Marlow whilst another unit runs to/from Bourne End and Maidenhead as there are no passing loops on the single track branch.
Exmouth branch (15 images)
The Exmouth line branches off the Exeter to Salisbury main line just past Exeter St James Park station and serves seven stations,Polsloe Bridge,Digby & Sowton,Topsham(the only passing loop),Exton(request stop),Lympstone Commando(marine base personnel only),Lympstone Village and Exmouth.Operated by Wessex Trains using class 150/153 sprinters.Most stations are served with an half hourly service with Polsloe Bridge and Exton an hourly service.Most trains continue to Paignton or Barnstaple.Special thanks to Wessex Trains staff for their co-operation.
Sudbury branch (Suffolk) (9 images)
Running from Marks Tey to Sudbury and serving three stations Chappel and Wakes Colne,Bures and Sudbury.Operated by ONE using class 150/153 sprinters with class 156 sprinters due to operate the line soon.Services operate hourly with peak time services running about every 45-50 minutes.The East Anglian Railway Museum is situated at Chappel and Wakes Colne station and visitors can see many preserved coaches and engines or visit the museum which forms part of the station.
Henley-on-Thames branch (10 images)
The branch runs from Twyford serving three stations,Wargrave,Shiplake and the terminus at Henley-on-Thames.The line is a single track branch and is operated by First Great Western Link using mainly two car class 165 turbos.An hourly service operates with extra services at peak time.
Sheerness-on-Sea branch (10 images)
Run by South Eastern Trains and operated with mainly class 508 EMUs serving four stations.The branch has an half hourly service and is normally worked by two units running back and forth between Sittingbourne and Sheerness-on-Sea serving four stations.The branch is double track with short single sections mostly between the stations.
Lymington branch (9 images)
The line branches off the main line at Brockenhurst via a single track to Lymington Pier serving the ferry terminal for Wightlink services to Yarmouth I.O.W.These services normally see one EMU running back and forth every half hour between Brockenhurst,Lymington Town and Lymington Pier.Operated by SWT and serving just two stations on the branch operated by the now famous 'slammers'.In May 2005 the branch became a heritage line and now has two dedicated units 1497 in BR blue/grey and 1498 in BR green.
North Woolwich branch (12 images)
The North Woolwich branch runs from Stratford to North Woolwich serving five stations and runs alongside the London Underground and Docklands light railway for most of the line making for an interesting contrast between rail,tube and light railway before the track singles and continues it's journey through Silvertown and on to North Woolwich.Rail services are operated by Silverlink using mainly class 313 EMUs on an half hourly basis.
Redditch branch (9 images)
A selection of photos from a recent trip to the Redditch branch which leaves the main line at Barnt Green and serves Alvechurch and Redditch.Services are operated by Central Trains under a franchise agreement with Centro running every 30 minutes using class 323 EMUs.Also includes a few extra photos of Longbridge,Selly Oak and University Stations.
Epsom Downs branch (11 images)
Running from Sutton in Surry via a single track to the terminus at Epsom Downs.Operated by Southern using mainly class 455 and 456 EMUs and serving three stations Belmont,Banstead and Epsom Downs.Most services operate to/from London via Sutton.The branch is operated on an hourly basis with extra peak time services.
